'Focused' Varley hails victory

The Castletown-Geoghegan team celebrate their win.

Castletown-Geoghegan captain Liam Varley believes that the side were 100% focused before the start of Sunday's County final victory over Raharney.

The black and ambers may have been underdogs, but they rose to the occasion to claim their 13th county SHC title at Cusack Park, Mullingar last weekend.

Varley played a captain's part at full back, but he stressed to the Westmeath Examiner that it was very much a team effort as they worked as a unit throughout.

“We were very focused and everybody was tuned in when we were warming up. You could just see everyone had a good feeling about the game,” said Varley.

“We tore into it from the start and we got the goal at a crucial time.” He added: “In the second half, you were always on the back foot when you were going for a ball, but we just had to deal with it. Thankfully, we overcame it. They got in for a goal with a minute to go. Those five minutes of added-time seemed to be going on forever, but we just held out at the end.”
