Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

February 26, 2017

Busy weekend ahead

Both our first and second teams will be in action this coming weekend (weather permitting).

On Saturday, our seconds will make the short trip to Streamstown to take on St. Joseph's in Division 6 of the All-County League. The game has a 3.30pm throw-in and Kilbeggan will be hoping to make it two wins from two after an impressive opening round performance against Coralstown/Kinnegad.

Our first team will also be aiming to build on their first round victory over Ballinagore when they play host to Mullingar Shamrocks on Sunday at 11.30am.

JFC draw

The draws for the various adult championships took place last week. The JFC has a new format which will see teams play each other twice in the round-robin series. Kilbeggan will open their campaign against Multyfarnham, followed by games against St. Paul's and Ballynacargy. They will then face St. Paul's, Ballynacargy and Multyfarnham again in that order. The championship will start later than usual at the end of July.

Lotto

Last week's lucky numbers were 7, 8, 11 and 21. There were two Match 3 winners - Breda Marshall, Dublin Road and Megan Glennon, Tullamore. This week's jackpot is €6,050. Thank you for your continued support.

Fundraiser

The club is planning a major fundraiser for early June. Watch this space for more details in the coming weeks.

New business

Good luck to our health and wellbeing officer and ladies football team member Mary Gardiner with her new business, Shiva Studio Yoga & Fitness. Our vice-chairman Senator Paul Daly was on hand to perform the official opening of Mary's new studio in Riverview last Saturday.

Changing of the chairmen

Kilbeggan Shamrocks clubman Michael Stones recently stepped down after a lengthy spell as chairman of the Westmeath hurling and football club in New York. Instead of having an overall chairman, the club will have one each for football and hurling from now on. Michael's younger brother James - who also played for Kilbeggan - has assumed the football chair, while Brian Melia from Castlepollard is the new hurling chairman. Michael remains on the committee as PRO.
