Westmeath manager Tom Cribbin has insisted that promotion from the NFL Division 4 will be their main priority this year.
Having suffered three consecutive relegations, the Lake County find themselves in the bottom tier of the Allianz National Football League.
During this time, they have reached two consecutive Leinster finals, but Cribbin admitted to the Westmeath Independent that it was essential to progress in the league this year.
"Both the players and myself were very disappointed at performing so poorly in the league," admitted Cribbin.
"We made a few stupid slip-ups early in the campaign and it cost us dearly. Getting out of Division 4 without a shadow of doubt is our priority.
"We need to get consistency from the very start of the year and carry that form into the championship. We need to develop the panel - that is what we need ultimately."
