Moate All Whites club notes

August 29, 2016

On Saturday evening past in Cusak Park, Moate took on Rosemount in their final group game of the Intermediate championship. With Moate safe from relegation and out of contention for a quarter final place there was nothing to play for other than pride.  The team and scorers were as follows: Darren McCardle, Conor Claffey, Andrew Gorman, Danny Bracken (0-1), Ronan McCormack, Robbie Gorman, Brendan Arigho, Eoghan Dalton (0-1), Ruairi Cunningham, Conor Sheridan, Gareth Murray (0-1),  Jamie Madden, Robbie Forde (0-4), Billy Berry (0-1), John Corbally (0-1) Subs used: Alan Claffey for Eoghan Dalton, Gavin Murray (0-1) for Conor Sheridan, and Dillon Ennis, Conor Claffey and Nigel Adamson for Billy Berry.  Despite their best efforts Moate struggled to match the intensity of championship favorites Rosemount and went down on a final score of 2-16 to 0-9.  Moate will be disappointed with their performance but the opportunity of promotion to division 2 in the league still on the table this year is far from over.

This match was closer, however we had a few points to spare at the end. Our final group match was against Ballyboden. Here we found ourselves 5 points down at half time against a strong Ballyboden side. The second half started with Moate scoring an early goal which lifted the team. Eventually we ran out 1 point winners, topping our group and qualifying for the semi-final. In the semi-final we were drawn against Clan na Gael from Roscommon.  We went in at half time 2 points up. The second half was a tense affair, however we held on to win by 2 points and qualify for the final. In the final we came up against a strong Salthill side. After a tight first half we were 2 points down. In the second half our players gave their all however we were unable to bridge the gap and Salthill ran out winners.
