Intermediate Championship

Southern Gaels  1-13   Castletown Geoghegan   1-6

Played in Moate last Friday the Athlone side were deserved winners with a consistent performance throughout. They opened brightly with a goal from MJ Kelly and a Jamie Anders point with Sean Maher responding with a Castletown point. Gaels picked off another three points as they dominated the first quarter. Sean Maher was playing well for Castletown and scored a point and set up a goal as they worked their way back into the game. However, three additional points from Kelly, Anders and Tony O'Keeffe saw the Ahlone side go into a five point lead. Castletown reduced this to three before halftime with a brace of well taken scores.

Gaels dominated the second half outscoring Castletown by 0-6 to 0-2 in a low scoring half. Both defences were to the fore and some wayward shooting was also in evidence. M.J. Kelly was the main scoring threat assisted by Anders and Eoin Meaney also added a point.

Eoin Fahy excelled in defence with Kieran Duncan majestic in front of the square. Trevor Farrell and Patrick Flynn were tireless at centre-field while veteran Tony O'Keeffe worked hard in attack.

Team: Sean Kilgarriff, Peter Muldoon, Kieran Duncan (Capt), Ronan Farrell, Shane Galvin, Killian Coyle, Eoin Fahy, Patrick Flynn, Trevor Farrell, Cathal Mc Givern, Tony O'Keeffe (0-2), Frank Kelly, Eoin Meaney (0-2), Jamie Anders (0-5) and M.J. Kelly (1-4).

Raherney   5-17   Southern Gaels  1-12

This championship round robin game was played in Moate on Tues 16th and Raharney totally dominated the first half to record an easy victory. They led by 5-11 to 0-6 at half time having blitzed Gaels with well taken goals. M.J. Kelly, Patrick Flynn and Kieran Duncan tried to stem the tide but to no avail. Daniel Riggs ran riot with three Raharney goals.

Gaels refocused in the second half and upped their performance. They outscored their more illustrious opponents by 1-6 to 0-6 with a much craftier and determined display but the damage was long since done. Frank Kelly took his goal well and O'Keeffe, Anders, Coyle and the Farrells showed a lot more effort and commitment.
