Junior Championship

St Lomans Mullingar 0.09 Garrycastle 2.08

A slow start and two first half goals would prove too much to overturn for St Lomans in their Junior Championship game against Garrycastle in Lakepoint Park on Thursday evening last.

Garrycastle opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from Robert Fox. It wasn't until the fourteenth minute that the next score was registered and once again it was for the visitors with a Robert Shine point. St Lomans got off the mark and kicked three points in five minutes with David Morgan scoring after been set up by James Cox while Niall Mc Gurran raised the white flag twice including a left footed effort from distance. It was from here the game was really lost for the blues where they struggled defensively. Two goals in a minute from Robert Shine and Bryan Mc Cormack added to two points just before the goals saw Garrycastle capture a lead that wouldn't be overturned.

St Lomans upped their game considerably in the second half and were the better side for large parts indeed holding the visitors scoreless for twenty six minutes. Niall Mc Gurran added three points with one of these scores an outside of the boot effort. Michael Gleeson, James Cox and Conor Matthews were also on target and the blues got the deficit down to the narrowest of margins. Some wayward shooting and missed goal opportunities would prove costly however. Garrycastle rallied back into the game and kicked four points in the last five minutes to seal a five point win for the southsiders.

The club wishes Pat Walsh a speedy recovery who suffered a head injury in the first half. It's hoped we'll see Pat back on the pitch for the next game!

St Lomans opened their championship campaign with a win in Lakepoint Park on Wednesday evening last against Moate All Whites. A solid defensive display holding the away team to just eight points scored was key to victory on the day.

Declan Colgan operating at full forward opening the scoring with a well taken goal after great link up play from Mikey Scally and Shane Boyce. Moate duo James Bracken and Sean Berry reduced the margin with points for the away side. St Lomans midfield partnership of Kevin Regan and Frank Kavanagh controlled proceedings in the first half with Regan also kicking a point to cancel out a Moate score. Brandan Gilsenan added 1.01 with the goal created by the excellent work from Jonathon Nugent who won the ball on the end line before he crossed to Gilsenan. Eoin Fox and Mikey Scally added points with Scally's effort a free executed off the ground. Blues Goalkeeper Ryan Cleary pulled off a point blank save to deny Moate centre forward Sean Berry a certain goal. Declan Colgan added his second goal of the game just before half time after a classy Mikey Scally pass to Eoin fox who then set up Colgan.

Moate started the second half brightly and added three points in the first ten minutes with Robbie Forde(2) and James Bracken on target while Mikey Scally converted his second free in between these scores. St Lomans got back on track defensively as these would be Moate's last scores of the game. U14 Girls League

St Lomans Mullingar 7-5 Loughnavalley 2-4

Loughnavalley were the visitors to Lakepoint Park on the warmest day of the year to contest the last round of the league. The importance of a good squad was never more needed with many girls away on holidays and the eighteen girls who togged out are a credit to themselves playing a fantastic game of football with temperatures in the high 20s!

Goals win games and so it proved with St Lomans leading at half time by 4-2 to 1-2. Indeed it could have been more but good defensive play by the valley combined with some wayward shooting from St Lomans meant there was not much in it. Credit must go to both teams as neither gave up in difficult conditions with St Lomans winning by 7-5 to 2-4.

Next up for the U14s is away to Loughnavalley next Tuesday (26th) in the championship.

Team was as follows- Jane McKenna, Meabh Killelea, Saoirse Cunningham, Lauren Kennedy, Emma Keena, Ciara Quinn, Niamh McGinley, Emer Murphy, Niamh Egerton, Emma McDonnell, Abbie Foye, Ella Mannering, Leanne Coffey, Annie Graham, Laura Cullen, Keely Muldarry, Annie Kilmurray, Ellen Kilmurray.
