Shandonagh 2-12
Ballinacarigy 2-11
On Saturday evening last, we played our near neighbours Ballinacarigy in the first round of this year's Intermediate Cup. Shandonagh started brightly and led 1-01 to 0-01 after 12 minutes, thanks to a lovely goal from Kevin Boyle. Ballinacarigy came back strongly to take the lead but a pointed free from Tom Molloy and two points from Ciaran Shanley kept Shandonagh in touch. Ballinacarigy went in at half time with a 3 point lead 1-07 to 1-04.
At the start of the second half Ballinacarigy started strongly with a quick goal and a point, stretching their lead to 6 points. With ten minutes remaining Shandonagh trailed 2-10 to 1-08. However, we increased the pace and a great finish to the net by Mathiu Scully and good worked points from Philip Smyth, Danny Foster and Ciaran Shanley (2), gave Shandonagh a one point lead going into the last couple of minutes. A pointed free from the energetic Tom Molloy put Shandonagh 2 in front. Ballinacarigy scored a point with the last attack of the game but Shandonagh emerged victorious.
