Denis Glennon has hit out at the Westmeath senior football management for refusing to release players to their clubs last night.

The 2004 Leinster SFC medallist, who isn't involved with Tom Cribbin's squad at present, took to Facebook yesterday to express his frustration at the fact that his club Tyrrellspass were denied access to their county players for an All-County League Division 1 game against Caulry. Westmeath play Leitrim in a SF challenge to mark the official opening of Killucan's new pitch this afternoon, but won't be in Leinster SFC action until June 12.

He wrote: "Just found out that the county footballers are not allowed to play for their clubs in the league tonight, they are 7 weeks away from championship.

"I've never in all my years seen such disrespect towards the clubs. The clubs are the foundation of the GAA. We are a little village that has always had 4 plus players in the set up. We will be lucky to field a team this evening. Sad day."
