Minor League
St Lomans Mullingar 5.09 Athlone 1.13
St Lomans hosted Athlone in the league in Lakepoint Park on Wednesday evening last. It was a highly entertaining game with very little between the teams as they clocked up fourteen scores each. The term goals wins games sprung to mind as the blues registered five goals which proved the difference.
It was tit for tat in the opening minutes with Brandan Gilsenan points cancelling out two Athlone points. A great move involving Fola Ayorinde, Frank Kavanagh and Shane Boyce saw the ball reach Mikey Scally who got the blues first goal of the game. Athlone responded with three unanswered points to level the game. Fola Ayorinde and Shane Boyce got their first scores of the game in the closing stages of the half but three scores from placed balls saw Athlone a point in front at the break.
Athlone looked like they were going to run away with the game as a quick 1.02 early in the half gave them a six point lead. It was from here the blues stepped up a gear. Jonathon Nugent was deadly accurate on free taking duty. Two quick goals from Frank Kavanagh and Fola Ayorinde put the blues in front as St Lomans took control of the game. The blues added further scores including goals from Stephen Sheridan (a classy finish) and Shane Boyce (fisted to the net) to seal the win.
This was an impressive win from St Lomans with many impressive performances. Jack Tyrell improves with every game while Thomas Kilmurray and Mark Mc Namee were solid throughout. Fola Ayorinde put in a master class in midfield while Shane Boyce and Brandan Gilsenan were the stand out players in the forward line.
Team; Ryan Cleary, Thomas Kilmurray, Jack Tyrrell, Shane Cleary, Tristan Johnson, Adam Kennedy, Mark Mc Namee, Frank Kavanagh(1.00), Fola Ayorinde(1.01), Daire Mc Laughlin, Shane Boyce(1.02), Jonathon Nugent(0.03f), Andrew Mc Kenna, Mikey Scally(1.00), Brandan Gilsenan(0.03). U16 League
The U16 lads were on the wrong side of a 4.12 to 2.10 scoreline when they travelled to Athlone for their league opener on Monday evening last. No doubt the lads will be looking to get back to winning ways in their next outing!
U14 Update
The U14's had a busy week as they began their league campaign and then contested the Feile competition with a mixed bag of results. On Thursday they travelled to Drumraney and won 3.12 to 1.07 against a strong Maryland Tang side. On Saturday they travelled to Moate and competed in a group with the host club and Caulry.
Caulry defeated Moate in the first game so it meant all was on the line in the game against Caulry. An early Bonvie Ndefi goal was cancelled out as Caulry came back with 1.02 of their own.
Another great save from Rory Matthews steadied the ship and St Lomans responded with goals from Richardo Lingi and James Carolan. The boys in blue went in five points ahead at the break although crucially they were denied another goal that seemed to have crossed the line.
Caulry raced out of the blocks in the second half scoring 2.01. St Lomans responded and were knocking on the door for the last five minutes, pressure which yielded only one point from man of the match Bonvie Ndefi. Caulry held out to progress to the quarter finals. St Lomans beat Moate in the final group game.
U14 Girls
The Downs came to Lakepoint Park to play our U14 Girls in the league. Right from the throw-in St Lomans stamped their authority on the game scoring a goal straight away. The girls added a point before The Downs counter-attacked with a well worked goal of their own. It was from here that St Lomans stepped it up a gear with a second goal and four more points added before half time.
St Lomans continued their dominance in the second half but The Downs never gave up and added 1.02 themselves in the half.
The St Lomans girls hunger for the ball combined with some good team play and running off the ball was the deciding factor here as the final score read St Lomans 6-9 The Downs 2-2.

The efforts of Alan and Louis were picked out by opposition mentors for special mention but overall a faultless morning from the lads .

U8 Blitz
Great fun for our young U8 footballers in Springfield on Saturday morning (23 April) as many of our young footballers played their first matches in the St Lomans colours. Well done to all involved and a special mention for the mentors guiding nearly 60 boys - the future is bright!!!
