ACFL Div 4 Round 3 Seniors
Castledaly 4-09 v St Malachy's 6-19
Team = Eanna Duffy Shane Dolan Shane Fitzpatrick James Farrell Damien
Stone Darragh Kelly Paul Henson Eamon Fleming Paul Costello Patrick
Costello Justin Coughlan David Stone Conor Foley Francis Bradley Eanna
Gavin. Sub MJ McLoughlin,
Saint Malachy's began the game in impressive style catching the home
team on the hop with a goal in the opening minute.
Castledaly responded well and opened their account with a well taken
Paul Costello point from play before Paul also added a free kick for a
foul on Justin Coughlan.
The kick out was well caught by Paul Henson who found James Farrell
and the defender pass to Francis Bradley allowed the full forward to
side step his marker before blasting the ball to the back of the net
and restore some parity.
However Malachy's responded with a strong spell of play, adding 5
points without reply and taking a firm grip of the game.
MJ McLoughlin was introduced for Foley and one of his first duties was
to convert a free kick for a foul on Eanna Gavin and reduced the
deficit to 3 points.
Malachy's again responded adding 5 points, which could have been much
greater but for Castledaly defensive efforts and an number of quality
saves from Eanna Duffy in goals.
At the other end of the pitch the lively Castledaly corner forward
David Stone won a free kick to give Justin Coughlan another
opportunity to point while the visitors added another score just
before half time whistle - the score 1-04 to 1-11 at the break.
The second half started with Castledaly wing forward Patrick Costello
winning possession and a free kick that was converted by his brother
Paul .
As Castledaly continued to attack a long ball pass from McLoughlin
accurately found David Stone who charged towards goal, was fouled and
won a penalty, dispatched by evergreen McLoughlin.
A point from the visitors was followed up by another attack and a goal
chance that was superbly saved by Eanna Duffy but the referee judged a
foot block and a penalty was awarded. The penalty was saved by Eanna
at full stretch but the place kicker followed up and scored as the
ball came back to him.
Malachy's added a further three points and a goal before Castledaly
responded with another point from Paul Costello - again David Stone
was the spark who won the free.kick. Stone continued his good play to
set Francis Bradley up for a good chance at another goal but as
visitors keeper made the angle acute for the Ballydrown man who wisely
opted for the point.
The visitors were in full flow by now and added two goals in quick
succession as the home team seemed to run out of steam. Conor Foley
was re introduced for Patrick Costello and had an impact as he added
two points from play after good play and interchange of passes from
his colleagues.
Castledaly continued to fight back and a scramble in the square added
another penalty won which MJ McLoughlin converted before Justin
Coughlan added the home team final point. With the game almost over
St. Malachy's rounded out their tally with another goal and four
points for a well deserved win. Castledaly will have learned alot from
this match and have a number of areas where improvements will be
needed to progress in this competition. Many of the younger players
showed great potential, but the performance was very sub standard and
the team is capable of much better than what was displayed today.
Under Age Results
Castledaly Under 12s were in competition against local neighbours
Rosemount recently but the opposition proved too strong ont he day

thanks to all who assist in its success.
There is a great stretch in the evenings and in the recent lovely
weather it has been great to see the Walking track proving a popular
venue for members to meet up in a safe and secure location to get
fresh air and exercise, avoiding traffic and other distractions.
