UNDER 6'S

Our Under 6 squad had another instalment of training last Saturday morning. We welcome Kevin and Eoin, two new trainers who have joined the group.

We look forward to another squad training on Saturday at 10.30am in Shandonagh, where new players and team helpers are always welcome.

UNDER 8's

The Shandonagh Under 8's were involved in their first blitz of 2016 last Saturday in Mullingar Shamrocks. We would like to thank our hosts for a brilliantly organised event. We would like to especially thank the parents and children who attended. We fielded 3 teams and all the kids got 2 full games each. We played Mullingar Shamrocks and St.Lomans and we are delighted with all the children's progress. Training continues in Shandonagh on 30th April at 10:30am.

UNDER 12 GIRLS

OUR under 12 girls lost out in great match to Milltown 2-2 to 3-2. Our next match is away against the Downs on 5th may at 7pm. All support welcome.

UNDER 14 GIRLS

Shandonagh Under 14 girls travelled to Clonmellon to play Delvin /St. Pauls in our second league match of the season. We got off to a poor start and conceded some early goals and went in down at half time on a scoreline of 3-7 to Shandonagh's 1-2. This was going to be a big tally to overcome in the second half. Nevertheless the girls set about their task with a new fire in their bellies and out scored the opposition 3-6 to 1-4 in the second half. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to over turn the first half lead. That said however, this was a great come back from the girls in blue. It showed a great pride and belief in themselves to make a battle of the game in the second half. There were great performances by Chloe Lyons, Katie Conlon, Sophie Treanor, Emma Fry, Ella Carey, Rebecca Maguire, and Team Captain Aoife Gavigan.
Thanks to all the parents who travelled to the match and assisted with lifts etc.
Training continues Tuesday's 6.00pm until 7.00pm and again on Saturdays from 10.30am until 11.30am.

UNDER 14 BOYS

Shandonagh 3-11 Coralstown Kinnegad 4-12

This was a mixed week for this squad of players. On Thursday night we took on Coralstown Kinnegad in the league. Whilst the visitors were quickest to settle down and score 3 goals and 2 points within 8 minutes, our boys battled back bravely and managed to go in at half time only down by 2-5 to 4-5. The second was a much closer affair. But try as our boys might, they could not close the gap enough and ended up on the wrong side of the 3-11 to 4-12 scoreline.

On Saturday they took part in the Féile na nÓg competition. First up was the Downs. This was a tightly fought contest and finished up a draw on a scoreline of 0-5 to their 1-2. Next up was St. Ernan's. We defeated them on a scoreline of 13-7 to 0-1. Whilst this may seem like an awful scoreline,  every single score was vitally important as the team that had a greater scoring difference progressed. And so the nail bitter was the game St. Ernan's played against the Downs. The Downs defeated St. Ernan's by 2 points leas than we did and hence we progressed. And so we progressed to a semi final. Here we received a bye. And so we face into a Féile Peil na nÓg county final. As we go to press we understand that this will be against Coralstown Kinnegad next weekend. Keep an eye on the Club's Face book page for up to date information.

UNDER 16 BOYS

Shandonagh's Under 16 squad travelled to Multyfarnham on Monday evening last in the second round of Division 2 of the league. This game was played in ideal conditions and both teams served up good football. The first half was very evenly contested.  Shandonagh's plan to move the ball quickly in the first half was excellently executed but Multy however just got the upper hand approaching half time. At the break, the scoreline read Multy 2-04 Shandonagh 1-04.  However the old adage that goals win matches proved right as Multy raised the green flag on four more occasions in the second half while Shandonagh only managed some very well taken points. The pace of the high paced running game took its toll on the Shandonagh players. Despite this, coupled with an injury depleted subs bench, the team played well overall with some positives to be taken for the upcoming matches. Thanks to the supporters who came along on the evening and we also wish James Kerrigan, Fedhlim Glennon, and Adam Quinn who are carrying injuries a speedy recovering and hope they can return soon. Training Mondays and Fridays 7.00pm until 8pm all times will be updated by text. Next match to be confirmed.

MINOR LEAGUE

Shandonagh 3-10 The Downs 2-13

Shandonagh minors played out a draw with The Downs in an entertaining game at home on Wednesday April 20th. The home side started very positively and raced into a big lead, scoring 3 goals and 3 points before the Downs registered their first point. The Downs side were shook into action and dominated the 2nd quarter. At half time the score was 3-5 to 1-4. In the second half the Downs took the game to Shandonagh and bit by bit the lead was reduced. Shandonagh responded with some good points of their own to keep a 4 point gap going into the last 5 minutes. A mix up in the Shandonagh back line saw a ball break to the downs player who grabbed a crucial goal. Well into injury time the downs were awarded a free and levelled the game which was soon followed by the final whistle. In truth it felt like a loss after surrendering such a good lead however it's on to the next game with the intention of repeating the first 20 minutes performance for more of the game next time out.

INTERMEDIATE SQUAD

Next Sunday evening (1st May) we host Castledaly in the re-fixture of our division ii appointment from earlier this month. This game throws in at 6.45pm in Shandonagh. All support is welcome.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

Well done to all concerned with the organising members of the club who got behind the Memorial Mass last Sunday. It was very well attended, with many of our former greats regaling us with stories of yesteryear (including Fr. Paddy) at the light bite held at the clubhouse afterwards. A big thank you also to Fiona Kiernan for her efforts too.
