St Lomans Mullingar Gaa Notes

November 23, 2015

Leinster Championship
St Lomans Mullingar 0.09 Ballyboden St Endas 1.11
St Lomans wonderful season came to an end in the Leinster semi final in Cusack Park at the weekend when they came up short against a well drilled Ballyboden side.
Ballyboden were first to settle into the contest and two converted frees from Andrew Kerin gave them the lead. St Lomans got off the mark when John Heslin who impressed throughout the game pointed a free. Heslin was on target again either side of a Sam Molony point as the sides were level on the thirteen minute mark. St Lomans took the lead with a Ken Casey point and after Conal Keaney soon equalised Paul Sharry restored the blues advantage.
Ballyboden had a clinical spell in the second quarter kicking three points before Michael Darragh Mc Cauley's quick free was sent into Conal Keaney and the full forward set up Sam Molony who neatly finished to the net. Things could have been very different but for a heroic save from Ballyboden keeper Paul Durcan to deny David Windsor a certain goal prior to these Ballyboden scores. John Heslin added a point before the break to leave just four between the sides at half time.
The second half failed to get any real rhythm to the game as an incredible twenty nine frees were awarded in a stop start final thirty minutes. Conal Keaney kicked three from placed balls early in the half and it was from here Ballyboden never looked back. Ciaran Kilmurray did well when introduced at full forward but the vital goal for the blues eluded them. John Heslin added three points but it was Ballyboden who deservedly finished five point winners and progressed to the Leinster Final.
The defeat marks the end of an incredible championship run for the blues with primary objective of winning back the Flanagan cup achieved. Special thanks to this wonderful bunch of players for their dedication throughout the year. Also thanks to manager Luke Dempsey, Selectors Aidan Canning, James Davitt and Robbie Kenny, Co Ordinator Frank Daly and Physio Mark Scally for their hard work all year. Roll on 2016!!!
