Westmeath clubs have given the thumbs up to the new structure for the 2016 inter-county senior football championship.
The new formatted which was proposed by Mullingar Shamrocks clubman Tom Hunt sees counties that compete in the Division 3 and Four of the NFL who are eliminated in the first round of their provincial championship compete in a Tommy Murphy Cup style competition with a route to the All-Ireland quarterfinals guaranteed.
"It will not take up extra Sundays and is a separate Tommy Murphy- style competition, the Westmeath Examiner reports Hunt as stating.
Club delegates supported the move which will be introduced in next year's championship and it was one of 22 proposals put through to Croke Park earlier this year.
