Senior Championship
St Lomans Mullingar 2.08 Mullingar Shamrocks 0.07
St Lomans booked their place in the county final after a hard earned win against neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon last.
It was a game that took a while to get going with both teams cancelling each other out in the early stages. Shamrocks missed some early chances to open the scoring after kicking a number of wides. John Heslin gave St Lomans the lead when his shot found its way to the net after been set up by good work from Kelvin Reilly and Ken Casey. Shamrocks levelled with points from Eddie Moore, Ciaran Curley and Seanie Daly. Both teams exchanged a point each in the closing stages of the half with Shane Dempsey kicking for the blues.
Shamrocks started the second half brightly and took the lead for the first time with points from Denis Corroon and Ciaran Curley. St Lomans began to up their game considerably and levelled the scores with points from Ken Casey and John Heslin. The introduction of Conradh Reilly proved to be a master stroke and his impact showed immediately when he set up a Heslin point. The blues really took control of the game and when John Heslin got his second goal of the game from his rebounded penalty there was no way back for Shamrocks. Shane Dempsey added to his tally with a point while Paul Sharry and Conradh Reilly sealed the win with points of their own.
