Intermediate Championship
Our intermediate hurlers cemented their place in the county semi final with an emphatic victory over local rivals Clonkill in the Downs on Sunday afternoon.
In the tight opening stages we managed to eek out a slender lead with three Barry O'Mara frees putting us a point to the good. It was a tough batlle at this stage with no quarter being asked for or given. When Seamus Savages long delivery was passed on to Barry by Johnny Orme he made no mistake with a good finish past the goalkeeper to put us in the driving seat. This goal was either side of two well taken points from Richie Crowley. After Antoin Savage extended our lead with a well taken score we were awarded a penalty. Our own netminder Shane McGovern stepped up and buried it for our second goal of the first half. A long range score from Ronan Scally followed by another O'Mara free left the HT score as
Crookedwood 2-8
Clonkill 1-4.
In the second half our defense only conceded 2 points, both of which were from long range in which was a great defensive effort from all, with Ronan Wallace and Enda Murray standing out. Meanwhile up front Noel Yourell, Brian Mcloughlin, Johnny Orme, Richie Crowley and Barry O'Mara kept the scoreboard ticking over to help us record a comprehensive victory. We now have some momentum behind us heading into our final group game against Fr.Daltons with the semi final looming on the horizon.
