All Ireland U16C Final
Pride of place this week goes to the county U16 team who captured the All Ireland U16C title on Saturday when they beat Antrim in the well appointed Inniskeen Grattan grounds in Monaghan.

This is the third time Westmeath have won this competition but unlike the previous occasions - 2009 & 2012 - this team also captured the Leinster title en route and remain undefeated for the year.  After the match President of the Association, Catherine Neary presented the Player of the Match award to Hannah Core and the cup to winning captain, Jade McKeogh.

The team rounded off a great day by being presented to the crowd in Cusack Park during half time in the senior hurling match between Raharney and St. Brigids that evening.

Well done to the entire panel on an outstanding year along with mentors Yvonne McKeogh, Mary Maher and Denise Croash.  See elsewhere in the paper for match report.

Team and scorers:  Edel Conaty, Megan Carroll, Shaunagh Maher, Aoife O'Malley, Rebecca Croash, Ciara O'Looney (0-01 ,45), Catriona Kennedy, Sheila McGrath (0-02f), Aoife Doherty, Hannah Core (0-03), Jane Nangle (0-01), Ava Balfe (1-01), Niamh McCarthy (3-01), Jade McKeogh (3-01), Laura Kilcoyne.  Subs used:  Meadbh Scally (0-01) for Laura Kilcoyne (HT) Rachel McNamara for Jane Nangle (51 mins), Chloe Butler for Catriona Kenndy (53 mins), Chloe Flood for Niamh McCarthy (56 mins), Aoife Kearney for Ava Balfe (57 mins).  Rest of panel: Eadaoin Murphy,  Emma Patton, Muireann McKenna, Aine Brady, Olivia Glynn, Sophie Keogh, Eleanor O'Connor, Zara Daly, Hallie Collins.

Leinster Minor B Championship

The minor team had their final game of the year on Sunday morning when they took on Carlow in Castletown Geoghegan on a lovely sunny afternoon.  Carlow were first on the scoresheet with two points in close sucession before Emma Broughan got Westmeath off the mark with a point after 6 minutes.  Aileen McHugh levelled the match after twelve minutes with a well taken point before Carlow added a '45 after 17 minutes.  The visitors scored their second goal before Rebecca Croash clawed one back for Westmeath.  Emma Broughan sent over a '45 for the final score of the half.  Half time score Westmeath 0-04 Carlow 2-02.

The backs had the best of opening minutes of the second half and it was ten minutes before the first score was registered - a pointed free from Emma Broughan.  Carlow added two points - one free and one from play - before scoring two goals in the space of a minute to effectively kill the game.  Emma Broughan added a further pointed free before goalie Edel Conaty brought off two great saves in the dying minutes.  Carlow closed out the scoring with a point from play.  Full-time score Westmeath 0-06 Carlow 4-05.  In truth there was little to distinguish between the teams other than Carlow's ability to take their scores - particularly goals - when required.

Well done to everyone who played for the county this year and a special word of thanks to mentors Jackie Jackson and Jemma Maybury for all their work with the team during the year.
