Senior Championship
We travelled to Cusack Park on Saturday evening last to play Bunbrosna in a must win game for us to ensure we played senior football next year. In so many games this year our lads have impressed but were not able to get over the finish line, this was not to be the case last weekend. The game was very tight throughout with our lads leading for large parts of it. A lot of chances were created but we were unable to pull away from our opponents. We had some strong performances throughout the pitch with all the lads standing tall when it counted and putting in a winning performance. We won on a score line of 1-11 to 1-9.
This concluded our participation in this year's championship and the win guaranteed our Senior status for another year. While injuries to key players weakened our hand this year, the lads showed great battling qualities to stay going and finally get the deserved win. The return of Darren Malynn from long term injury was a particular high point for this year and we hope that his playing days will continue for many days to come. Many thanks to Bainisteoir John Keane, ably assisted by Tommy, Dave and Andreas for all their hard work and dedication. Thanks also to our main team sponsors, The Gap House in Moate and Reilly Mushrooms, Walderstown.
And finally the club would like to thank David Martin for his many years of service on the field of play. An All Ireland Minor winner with Westmeath in 1995, David has been the backbone of the team for over 20 years. He claims that Saturday was his last senior championship match but we won't let him retire that easily!
