Moate All Whites GAA club notes

August 24, 2015

On Sunday evening Moate played Ballinagore in round five of the intermediate championship in Kinnegad.  This was a game that Moate couldn't afford to lose if they wanted to progress to the quarter finals of the championship.  The Moate team that started was A Ryan, R Conway, D Buckley, A Gorman, B Arigho, A Claffey, G Murray, R Cunningham, R Gorman, D Adamson, Gareth Murray, N Adamson, C Bradley, J Corbally and B Berry.  Ballinagore employed a two man sweeper system to limit the space of our full forward line having learned from the beating St Marys took from us.  The tactic worked and Moate forwards struggled to find space.  Points from Cian Bradley, Gareth Murray, Billy Berry and John Corbally left Moate leading by six points to five at the break.  The second half saw Moate struggle to break down the Ballinagore defensive system but as the game went on Moate started to get on top.  A couple of points form the excellent Cian Bradley and a point from substitute David Minnok saw Moate take a three point lead going into the last quarter of the game.  With eight minutes to go Cian Bradley scored a fantastic goal after taking advantage of an error by the Ballinagore goal keeper.  We were six points up and looked home and dry.  Unfortunately Ballinagore hadn't read the script and sailed up the field to score a goal themselves.  This brought the difference back to three and their tails were up.  Ballinagore then kicked four points in a row to lead by one going into injury time.  Moate needed the draw to progress and the ref handed us a life line with a free from the 45 meter line.  Cian Bradley took on the responsibility and kicked the equalizing point to the relief of all involved.  The final score was 1-10 each and a draw was probably a fair results.  Best for Moate on the day was Gavin Murray, Nigel Adamson and Cian Bradley who finished with a personal score of 1-5.

In Underage football, Moate U-16's take on Rosemount in the championship on Monday evening at 7pm.  The game is in Rosemount so please come out and support the lads.  Our U-11's are in Hogan part this evening where they take on Kilbeggan/St Josephs.  That game kicks off at 7pm also.  Our u14 team played Caulry in the championship last Thurs night. Caulry started the stronger of the two and raced into an early lead of 1-04 to 0-01. Eventually our lads came into the game as the half wore on and despite been down by 12 points at one stage went in 6 down at half time. The second half started like the first with Caulry scoring 3 goals in the first 10 mins. The lads never recovered and the game finished with a full time score of Caulry 8-10 Moate 2-11.  Our U11s had a great win v Tyrellspass on Monday night last, as did our u12 v Kilbeggan / St Joseph the previous day.  In the Minor championship Moate had a great win over Ballynacargy on Wednesday last. A massive thank you to Kieran Martin for taking a training session with our u12, 14s and 16s on Monday night last.

Finally, the club would like to congratulate all our members who received college places for the coming year.
