Intermediate Championship
St.Marys vs Tang
Both these sides met in awful weather conditions in moate sunday evening.Tang were first to get going in this crunch game and they got the first score and that was quickly responded with the equalizing score from St.Marys. Conditions werent ideal tonight but these two teams served up a cracker of a game in front of a large crowd. The First half had everything we seen some great St.Marys support play and brilliant defending.Tang really put alot of pressure on St.Marys in the first half and really kept playing well through the channels but it was St.Marys backs that were in top form and really working as a unit.It was 2 points each after 20 mins and really the game was wide open but it was St.Marys That were to grab the Game by the scuff an get the next two scores and by now our forwards were moving well and closing down every ball and st.marys went in with a 2 point lead at the break. low scoring half 4 points -2.The second half started and st.marys started the very same way they finished and by now the rain was bucketing down and conditions were awaful but our lads got going from the start and our forwards were putting on serious pressure and getting some excellent scores. We were dominating in the middle of the park and winning alot of breaks and creating alot of oppurtunitys.Midway through the second period we hit the back of the tang net to put distance between us,Credit Tang they arent tabletoppers for no reason. They kept the pressure on and started moving the ball well.Tang were trying to find the back of st.marys net but that wasnt to be as our lads defended in numbers and moved the ball through the channels with great coheason and St.Marys put everything into this game and our forwards and midfielders s kept the scoreboard ticking over and subs also worked well to bring fresh legs and different options to the field.St.Marys ran out winners 1-09 - 0-08 .This was a game the lads needed to win and it was ahuge team effort and a panell effort and we thank the lads and manegment team for there hard work this year......AS IT GOES NAOMH MHUIRE.
Minor championship result and report st.marys vs milltownpass.
Both these two teams locked horns in rochfortbridge tonight in the first round of the championship,St.Marys started the strongest with the first two points going there way after some great link up play around the middle of the park.Milltownpass did respond straight away and were level fairly quick. There was some great play in this half and our lads were playing well in the middle of the park and upfront. Our defenders had to be on there game and really worked hard to keep the opposition at bay.Milltownpass landed a ball in the bridge square and they managed to get it into the net after it fumbled around the square. This goal put a few points between them and our lads had to keep working hard.we lost andrew bollard after a hefty tackle and that was our only sub we had for tonight due to holidays and injurys. At the break it was the visitors that were ahead 1-06 - 0-07.Our lads new they had to really grab this game by the scruff and keep working hard. That they did,our defenders were imence in the second half having to deal with alot of ball going in,our midfield partnership worked extremly well tonight and the individual play was brilliant and every ball in was been punished by a score with our brilliant forwards giving absolutly everything for there team,The 45,s and free taking tonight was excemptional tonight and it kept us really in the game,we were a point ahead coming near the end and we worked the ball in and from 20 yards out we struck to the net after some great play from our forwards. That put 4 between them and we really kept working to the bitter end and then late on we converted another point and ran out winners st.marys 1-13 - milltownpass 1-08.well done lads, great win tonight ,alot of players from defenders to midfield to forwards played out of there skin tonight.NAOMH MHUIRE ABU........
