Westmeath club official in hot water

Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Westmeath GAA have vowed to leave no stone unturned as they investigate an incident during a club SFC clash last weekend.

Coralstown/Kinnegad and Maryland went head to head in a SFC clash at Cusack Park with the majority of the match being played in a sporting manner.

However, an incident occurred near the end of the match when it is alleged that a Coralstown/Kinnegad official struck one of the Maryland players.

Former Westmeath minor Bryan O'Donoghue was retrieving the ball from the sideline when there was contact between the corner back and an official of the opposing club.

It is alleged that the official struck O'Donoghue knocking him to the ground and this led to many players and officials getting involved, but order was soon restored as Coralstown/Kinnegad held on for the win.

Westmeath GAA chairman Sean Sheridan was in attendance at the game and vowed that a full investigation would be launched into the matter.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, he said: "The referee's report will be passed on to the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) for their consideration," said Sheridan.

"We will not tolerate this type of behaviour in Cusack Park or any other park."
