Liberty Insurance All Ireland Premier Junior Championship Semi Final

Best of luck to the Junior team who travel to St. Brendan's Park, Birr on Sunday next where they take on Laois in the All Ireland Semi Final.  It would be great to see some support for the girls on the day.

All Ireland U16C Semi Final
The U16 team travelled to Rathoath on Saturday last where they took on Kildare in the All Ireland semi final.  Unbeaten in the Championship, supporters travelled with high hopes of reaching the All Ireland final.   The team got a dream start when an early ball in by Eva Balfe found its way into the back of the Kildare net.  Aoife Doherty scored a point before Hannah Core - following a great ball in by Niamh McCarthy - raised the second green flag of the afternoon to leave Westmeath 2-01 to no score up after 15 mins.  Kildare then went on the attack scoring the next two points and but for an excellent save  from a '45 would have been nearer.    The backs worked very hard in this period - with Ciara O'Looney in particular clearing a lot of ball.  Westmeath finished the half stronger with three further points from Niamh McCarthy (2) and Jade McKeogh to leave the half time score Westmeath 2-04 Kildare 0-02.

Westmeath started the second half as they did the first with a goal from Laura Kilcoyne, followed shortly by another by Niamh McCarthy.  Kildare pressed hard and added three goals and three points in the second half but further points from Laura Kilcoyne and Hannah Core (2), together with a fifth goal courtesy of Jade McKeogh, and a pointed free at the end from Sheila McGrath saw the team run out winners.  Final Score Westmeath 5-08 Kildare 3-05.  This is a very balanced team with great performances from all over the pitch.

The team will now contest the All Ireland final against Antrim on Saturday 29th August.

Leinster Minor B Championship

The minors travelled to Kilcotton on Sunday to take on Laois in Round 4 of the Minor B Championship.  Unfortunately it was not to be their day.  Final score Laois 1-16 Westmeath 0-08.  Before the game there was a minute's silence for Mary Conlon, grandmother of panel member, Rachel McNamara.  Next game for the team is at home against Carlow on 30th August.

Team & Scorers: Edel Conaty, Lorraine Kelly, Katie Egan, Emma Reid, Hailie Collins, Emma Broughan, Olivia Kellaghan, Ailish Greene, Kelly Dalton, Hannah Core (0-01), Katie Heffernan (0-05), Ciara Murphy, Anna O'Farrell, Jade McKeogh (0-01), Rachel Shaw (0-01).  Sub Eadaoin Murphy for Hailie Collins.
