Moate All Whites came up against Tang in the third round of the Intermediate championship on Wednesday last in Tubberclair. The Moate team that started was A Ryan, D Ennis, D Bracken, A Gorman, B Arigho, A Claffey, R Conway, G Murray, R Gorman, J Madden, Gavin Murray, D Adamson, C Bradley, J Corbally and B Berry. Tang dominated the first half and led by 12 points going in at half time. Moate fared much better in the second half and Ruairi Cunningham who came on as a sub late in the first half took control of midfield. Goals from John Corbally, Cian Bradley and Gareth Murray took Moate within 6 points of Tang but they had left themselves too much to do and finished up losing by 6 points on a score of 3-7 to 2-16. Even though Moate lost the match the second half performance showed what this team are capable of. Best for moate on the day were Ruairi Cunningham, Cian Bradley and Andrew Gorman. The club would also like to wish Dillon Ennis a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained during the match. Dillon is one of our most promising players and we all look forward to seeing him back in a white jersey.
On Sunday evening Moate played St Marys of Rochfortbridge in round four of the intermediate championship in Rosemount. The moate team that started was A Ryan, D Buckley, D Bracken, A Gorman, B Arigho, A Claffey, R Conway, R Cunningham, R Gorman, Gavin Murray, Gareth Murray, N Adamson, D Adamson, J Corbally and B Berry. Moate started the game very strong and 1-1 from the outstanding John Corbally took us into a 4 point lead. St Marys to their credit fought back and the teams were level after ten minutes. Two quick goals from Moate, one form Ronan Conway and the other from Corbally turned the match in our favour and St Marys seemed to lose heart. John Corbally added another goal and a point to leave the score 4-7 to 1-6 at half time and the game as a contest was pretty much over. The second half saw John Corbally add another goal and a point to his tally leaving him with a personal score of 4-4. Billy Berry and David Adamson kicked over three points between them to leave Moate winning on a final score of 5-12 to 2-9. Pretty much everyone on the pitch for Moate played well and in particular the Gorman brothers, Billy Berry, Alan claffey, Ruairi Cunningham, Gareth Murry and man of the match John Corbally. A win in our last game against Ballinagore should guarantee us a spot in the quarter finals which would be a fantastic achievement for a newly promoted team.
