Fantastic Journey ends for 2015:
Westmeath Senior Footballers marvellous journey through the 2015 Championship ended in disappointing fashion at Kingspan Breffni Park where Fermanagh had too much in hand winning by 1-13 to 0-7. Forced to field without the injury John Heslin and team Captain Ger Egan, the deck had to be reshuffled for this game and in truth the players and management will be disappointed with our exit as we looked very flat throughout. Westmeath did start in good fashion with Shane Dempsey pointing inside the opening two minutes but in a error strewn opening quarter from both sides scores were at a premium. Level at 0-2 apiece after the first quarter, Westmeath thanks mainly to John Connellan moved 0-5 to 0-2 in front by the 25th minute. But Fermanagh did finish off the half strongly with three unanswered points as the sides went in level at 0-5 each at half time. This was a satisfactory position at the time but the second half went badly astray. For the first fifteen minutes of the second half, there was still little to choose between the sides but gradually Fermanagh built a lead. However, when Tomas Corrigan fired home the games only goal with six minutes remaining, it extinguished any remaining Westmeath hopes of winning this game. The second half was one to forget as we ran out of ideas and certainly Fermanagh were full value for this win. I for one am extremely proud of this Westmeath team and though they are far from the finished product, there is plenty of potential in them to progress much further. The focus now has to be to retain the bulk of the current panel and to source more options from our club championships which will now hit full swing. The sad thing is that we wont have inter county action again until next year but the planning has to start now. Thank you Westmeath Senior Footballers for a much improved year in 2015 and once again the support came out in large numbers on Saturday and that is great to see after a few very barren years.
Club Championships resume:

Midweek sees the Senior & Intermediate Hurling championship continue into its third round with games on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29th July.

Diabetes Ireland:
Diabetes Ireland which is an Official Charity of the GAA for this year has organised a unique challenge for club members across the country.
We are kicking off a #PressUpChamp challenge this week to coincide with the peak period of the GAA season, both county and also club as club teams will be starting to prepare for Championship across the country in the majority of cases.
We are asking people of all ages across the GAA community to do as many press-ups as they can, video it and post on their social media while challenging their team-mates, family and friends to beat their score while texting the word "PressUp" to 50300 to donate €4 to Diabetes Ireland.
We have asked over 30 GAA stars to take part… David Moran, Philip Jordan, Kevin Cassidy, Matt O Hanlon, John Heslin, Conor Mortimer, Joe Brolly & The Sunday Game all taking part this week so a good start. Can you forward to your senior county team also to see if some of the stars may be able to take part.
This initiative we hope will appeal to all ages and hopefully teams will do it together in training across clubs nationwide with some fundraising raised for us along the way.
