JFC v Multyfarnham
We face arguably our toughest test so far in this year's JFC against Multyfarnham next Friday, July 31 in Springfield at 6pm. We failed to beat Multy in three attempts last year, including the JFC semi-final when John Gordon's men scored a late goal to win by 1-13 to 1-9.
After our poor start to the championship, there is little or no margin for error in our quest to reach the knockout stages, so nothing less than a victory will suffice.
JFC v St. Joseph's
We made it two wins on the bounce in the JFC when overcoming our underage partners St. Joseph's by 1-18 to 0-8 at Cusack Park last Friday evening.
The scoreline was a little unfair on Joseph's who only trailed by three points, 0-4 to 0-7, at half-time and missed two guilt-edged goal chances. By the end of the third quarter, we had opened up a 0-13 to 0-5 lead and victory was sealed when David Fennell netted near the end.
Team: Brendan McMahon; Tadhg O'Gorman, Warren Maher, David Marshall; Mel Kiernan, Nigel Scally, James Fox; Paddy Barry, Shaun Pidgeon; James Finnegan, Kevin Smith, James Brennan; David Fennell, Simon O'Neill, Paul Fennell. Subs used: Dean Fitzgerald, Paul Maloney, Colm Heffernan, Sean Hanlon and Emmett Dalton.
Ladies football
Our ladies footballers are facing a three-way playoff with Garrycastle and Tyrrellspass to determine what two teams progress from the group to the semi-finals of the senior championship.
The scenario arises following our six-point defeat to Garrycastle last Wednesday evening in Garrycastle. The draw for the playoff wasn't made at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's girls' football club expresses thanks to Kathleen Kelly for running two cake sales last weekend in aid of the club.
Car wash
Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's girls' football club are holding a car wash fundraiser next Saturday, August 1 at the M6 Service Station from 9am to 6pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Lotto
The numbers drawn last weekend were 6, 8, 22 and 28. There were no match 3 winners. The two draw winners were Michael Lynam, Donore, Streamstown and Grace Kelly, Croghan. Next Saturday's jackpot will be €12,900.
