Gerry Reilly Cup: Dublin send out warning

Man of the Match Richie English (Dublin) gets away from Westmeath's David Mullins during the second round of the Gerry reilly Cup at Millbrook.

Dublin 5-15 Westmeath 2-10

Dublin stamped their authority in the second half of this game in Round 2 of the Gerry Reilly U-16 FT played in Millbrook, Oldcastle on Sunday evening.

Those present were treated to a great display of football and it was only entering the 40th minute that Dublin got completely on top.

Points were exchanged in the opening minutes before Westmeath's Aidan Keena shot to the Dublin net. Richie English pointed from afree for Dublin and Daniel Heavin responded the same way at the other end. Dublin scored 3 points without reply to have the sides level. Westmeath's, 'keeper made a fantastic save twarting Dublin and which he had to do again when Dublinwere leading by a point.

Dublin had led by 0-8 to 1-3 When Daniel Heavin got Westmeath's second goal to take the lead again. Points were again exchanged just before the break.

On the re-start Westmeath had 2 attempts wide of the posts efore Ross Mcgarry pointed to have the sides level. A Daniel Heavin pointed free had Westmeath in front again, but the writing was on the wall when Richie English scored a point and quickly followed with 2 goals.

While Westmeath never gave up and added 5 points to their tally, Dublin were on fire with 3 more goals before the final whistle.

Dublin have sent out a message that they are all out to re-capture the cup this year.
