Moate All Whites club notes

July 06, 2015

Moate All Whites played Mullingar Shamrocks 2nd team on Saturday evening last in a crucial Division 3 league match.  The team that started for Moate was as follows: :  D Mc Ardle , C Claffey, D Bracken, J Fannen, B Arigho, A Claffey, J Gillivan, G Murray, R Gorman, J Madden, C Bradley, D Adamson, N Adamson, J Corbally, and B Berry. Subs A Gorman for C Claffey, E Kelly for N Adamson.  Moate started the better of the two teams and the tactic of playing a two man full forward line of John Corbally and Billy Berry worked very well.  John who has had a nightmare year with injuries looks to be back to his best which is great news for the All Whites. Moate went 2 points up through Robbie Gorman and Nigel Adamson before Mullingar brought it back to a one point game.  John Corbally scored a goal and a point in quick succession to leave Moate 5 points up.  Moate were playing with a string wind so a good lead at half time was crucial.  Mullingar finally got going half way through the first half and scored 1-2 without reply to bring the teams level.  Gareth Murray who had an excellent game in midfield kicked us into a 1 point and John Corbally added 1-1 to leave us 5 points up with the first half closing in. Mullingar kicked over one more point to leave Moate leading by 2-5 to 1-4 at half time.  The second half was all about Moate backs led by Alan Claffey defending a 4 point lead while playing into a strong breeze.  Cian Bradley kicked 3 points and Eoin Kelly 1 to Mullingar's 6, to leave Moate winning by 2 points in the end.  This was a really good performance form Moate with Many positives.  Robbie Gorman and Gareth Murray more than held their own against a strong Shamrock's midfield.  Danny Bracken had an excellent game at full back.  Jimi Gillivan who has served the club for so long did a really good job at wing back.  Special mention must also go to minors Jake Fannen, Andrew Gorman and Billy Berry who were excellent throughout.  Finally, one of Moates best and bravest players over the past decade decided make the bravest decision of all and get engaged. Moate would like to wish Brendan Arigho and Aine the best of luck for the future.

In underage football Moate played Caulry U-10s on Tuesday last.  Both Clubs fielded 2 teams and delivered two excellent games of football.  Moate came out on top in both games but Caulry played their hearts out and can be very proud of themselves. On Wednesday last our Minors beat Ballinacarrgy on a score of 5-17 to 4-4.  Finally, in U-8 football we play a blitz in St. Malachys/Ballinagore on Friday evening at 6.30.  Please make an effort to come.
