Shandonagh club notes

June 30, 2015

UNDER 6'S

The under 6 played their first game last Saturday morning. Although it was an internal club fixture between the greens and the reds, both teams played well. At half time the reds were in the lead however a strong start by the green's in the second half left both sides level at the the final whistle. Well done to all who participated.

UNDER 12 GIRLS

Hard luck to our under 12 girls who suffered defeat to a good Caulry side last Thursday on a score line of
5-4 to 2-7.

MINOR BOYS

Shandonagh minors had a very busy schedule last week with 3 matches in 5 days. Great credit is due to the squad for the sustained effort made in a very short period of time.

The first game at home versus Caulry saw the lads emerge with a well deserved victory by 5-18 to 2-5 against a talented Caulry side missing some players. Our team got off to a great start and led by 2-5 to 0-1 after 20 minutes.  Caulry finished the half strongly scoring 1-2 without reply.

The second half saw a more balanced game with sides trading scores before Shandonagh extended their lead and finishing strongly.

The second game was also in Shandonagh against a very strong Rosemount side who quickly took control of the game to lead by 2-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. A weakened Shandonagh team, missing key players, got into the game in the 2nd quarter. After half time the Shandonagh lads got more into the game and landed some good scores. Rosemount however were too strong and ran out deserved winners by 3-22 to 0-6.

The third game was away to the Downs, a fancied side to land minor honours again this year. An under strength Shandonagh side put in a very spirited performance against a strong Downs outfit on Friday night last. Shandonagh got off to a good start taking the lead while taking the game to their hosts. The game was very even until 10 mins before half time when a blitz of scores saw the home side take control.

The second half was very even with scores exchanged however the plucky Shandonagh lads could not close the gap. The game finished on a score line of The Downs 3-13 Shandonagh 1-9. Well done to all the squad on a physical and enjoyable game.
