Minor hurlers set up Carlow date

Westmeath minor hurling manager Johnny Greville

Westmeath will face Carlow in the next round of the Leinster MHC after romping to a 5-19 to 0-6 victory over Wicklow on Saturday.

Johnny Greville's charges will travel to Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday week, April 25 with high hopes of progressing further after ending the county's four-year wait for a win in the Leinster MHC in fine style in the Garden County.

Favoured by a strong breeze in the first half, the visitors had built up an unassailable 2-13 to 0-1 lead by half-time thanks to goals from Paddy Doody and Ciaran Doyle. It continued to be one-way traffic after the restart when Killian Doyle netted twice and Doody also registered his second green flag.

In an excellent all-round display, Darragh Qumar excelled in defence, Jack O'Brien and Joe Rabbitte worked hard in midfield, while the Doyle twins, Doody and Johnny McCarthy kept the scoreboard operators busy throughout.
