St Lomans Mullingar Gaa Notes

April 13, 2015

ACL Division 3
St Lomans Mullingar 0.15 Moate 0.09
St Lomans recorded an important win in Division 3 while gaining home advantage as Moate's pitch was deemed unplayable after the torrential weekend rain. The rain stayed away from Lakepoint Park although a slight wind did nothing to take away from an enjoyable game.
The visitors made a bright start and had the better of the opening ten minutes with points from Nigel Adamson, Brendan Arigho and Cian Bradley. St Lomans settled into the game with the half back line trio of Conor O Donoghue, David Rushe and Timmy Murphy sending plenty of supply into the forwards with the latter also kicking a wonderful point. Garrett Hickey pointed a free before Johnny Mee levelled the scores with a point after Hickey and Jason Daly linked up well to set up the score. Moate responded with two points but a strong finish to the half saw Cormac Corroon(2), Garrett Hickey(2) and Johnny Mee all raising the white flag to give the blues a four point half time lead.
Moate with the wind advantage started the second half in clinical mood and registered three points in six minutes. They continued their early pressure but the St Lomans defence matched all that was thrown at them. Adam Gaffney and Daniel Sheridan both commanded midfield with Gaffney catching numerous balls and Sheridan's runs causing havoc. Gaffney and Conor Cochrane both pointed either side of a Moate point which would prove to be the visitors  last score. St Lomans finished the game showing great heart and determination and added points from Jason Daly(2) and Garrett Hickey with one of Daly's scores a neatly converted point after a wonderful Daniel Sheridan run. Moate tried in vain to reduce the margin but it was St Lomans that finished six point winners.

U16 League
St Lomans responded from a heavy opening round defeat to The Downs with a win against Shannon Gaels in Tang on Saturday evening. The Gaels raced into a 2-03 to 0.00 lead after a sloppy start from St Lomans. Goals from Adam Lynch and Daire Mc Loughlin brought the blues right back into contention and were just a point behind at the break despite the nightmare start.
St Lomans aided by a strong wind in the second half stamped their authority on the game. Further goals from Daire Mc Loughlin, Fola Ayorinde and TJ Cox along with some fine point kicking and the exceptional hard work of Sean Whelehan, Conor Shaw and Oisin Hogan ensured victory for St Lomans.
U14 Feile
St Lomans contested an exciting Feile quarter final in Caulry at the weekend and came up short by the last score of the game, a goal from the home side. If the lads keep up the same fighting spirit they will certainly have a successful season.
