Division 3 v Ballymore
Despite conceding just two points in the second half, we crashed to our fourth defeat in Division 3 of the All-County League against Ballymore at St. James' Park last Sunday.
The visitors emerged as 1-9 to 0-8 winners following a hard-fought game which almost didn't go ahead after heavy overnight rain had left the pitch close to unplayable. With just one win in the campaign to date - against Milltown - we face an uphill battle to avoid relegation with four more rounds to be played.
Despite this latest reversal, it was an encouraging performance from an understrength Kilbeggan team against opponents who will be expected to go far in this year's intermediate championship. The sides were level twice early on before Derek Molloy's soccer-style goal gave Ballymore a lead they wouldn't surrender.
The green and golds extended their advantage to 1-4 to 0-2 before two Dean Fitzgerald frees reduced the arrears. But Ballymore went on to lead by 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.
In a low-scoring second half, points from Keith Gorry and Fitzgerald narrowed the gap. But the visitors were always able to keep us at arm's length as David Fennell's free proved to be a case of too little, too later.
Team: Fergal Fox; John Dinnegan, Warren Maher, Shaun Pidgeon; Paul Maloney, Alan Fennell, Kevin Smith; Morgan Mealiffe, Paddy Barry; David Fennell, Mel Kiernan, Dean Fitzgerald; Keith Gorry, David Keenan, James Finnegan. Subs used: James Brennan, Craig Arthurs and Adam Arthurs.

Goalmouth repairs
Improvements have been carried out to both goalmouths at St. James' Park in the past week with the laying of artificial turf. It is probably fair to say the goalmouths were the driest area of the field for last Sunday's game against Ballymore.
U16s
Well done to the Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's U16 team on their big win over Milltownpass last week.
