Championship U14 Girls
21/3/2015 Milltown
Athlone 7-11 Milltown 1-6
Our U14 girls continued their excellent start to life in division 1 of the championship when they comfortably saw off the challenge of Milltown on Saturday last on a bright sunny morning in Milltown. The girls were on top right from the throw in and scored a quick goal from Grace Halligan. Milltown then showed they were up for the game when they scored two quick points. However Athlone took full control of the game and scores flowed from Grace Halligan (0-3), Niamh McGann (1-1), Eadaoine Martin (0-1), Kate Faller (1-0), Ella McGlynn (1-0), Blessing Imade (0-1) and Brionna Geoghegan (1-1). Milltown did manage a further 1-2 in the half but at half time the score was 5-7 to 1-4 in Athlone's favour.

The second half continued in the same vein with Nadia Molloy opening the scoring with a point and then further scores from Grace, Niamh and Brionna completed a wonderful hour for Athlone.  The final score was Athlone 7-11 Milltown 1-6.
This was possibly one of the best ever displays from this talented group as Milltown are one of the top teams in the county.  The team work and the desire to help each other was super.  The defence hunted in packs and Milltown found it very difficult to cope.  All the backs were superb but Nicole Murray, Blessing Imade and Amy Earl deserve special mention.  As usual Brionna dominated midfield and drove on the forwards and all the forwards won their individual battles in style.  It was great to see eight different scorers on the day and it shows that the team is very balanced.  However as the mentors pointed out after the game this was only the second game out of nine and that there is still lots of room for improvement but if the girls put in the effort in training they have the talent to succeed.  Well done to all involved.
Panel: Becky Imade, Nicole Murray, Wiktoria Sewerniak, Kirsty Johnston, Amy Earl, Blessing Imade (0-1), Lucy Sheridan, Nadia Molloy (0-1), Brionna Geoghegan (1-2), Kate Faller (1-0), Grace Halligan (2-5), Ella McGlynn (1-0), Niamh McGann (2-1), Eadaoine Martin (0-1), Ellen O'Connell, Aoibhe Wykes, Kasey Quinn, Ailbhe Moylan, Emily O'Callaghan, Saoirse Hynes, Edel Cleary.

20/3/15 Pairc Chiarain
Div 4 Junior League
Athlone 3-8 Kinnegad 3-11
Athlone's Junior Ladies team opened their league campaign with a defeat when they were unlucky to go under by three points to Kinnegad in Pairc Chiaráin on Friday night.  The more experienced Kinnegad girls started strongly and two goals helped them to a half-time lead.  However the very young Athlone team, featuring several U16 and even some U14 players, gradually gelled and a trio of superb goals, as well as some well-taken points, gave them the lead with just 10 minutes remaining in the second half.  However the Kinnegad girls were able to call on their greater experience and physical strength to dominate the final period and their own third goal put them back in front, before a couple of late points saw them home on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-8.
