Moate All Whites club notes

January 26, 2015

I guess it's a good thing when 2014 finished in the last week of January 2015.  Moate All Whites have had an amazing year and while we are disappointed with the result yesterday there is no doubt we can look back with great pride on the 2014 football year.  Yesterday just wasn't our day but we take nothing away from John Mitchel's, they deserved to win yesterday and we wish them the best of luck in the All Ireland Final.   For anyone who wasn't in Navan yesterday, Moate were beaten by three points in the All Ireland Junior Semi Final on a score of 1-09 to 1-06.  An early injury to Darren McCardle resulting in a 22 minute delay was not the ideal start and Moate struggled to build any kind of momentum for the rest of the first half. Darren is recovering in hospital and we wish him well.  The teams went in level at half time with 3 points each.  The second have was much livelier and was finely balanced until John Mitchel's scored the first goal of the game.  It was a turning point and we never recovered from it. They scored another 3 points without reply leaving Moate with a mountain to climb.  As always Moate never gave up and a goal from Cian Bradly gave us a glimmer of hope.  Unfortunately John Mitchel's defence held tight and we couldn't break them down to get the goal we needed to take the game to extra time.   When we take stock of what happened this year we have surpassed all expectations.  Paul, Gerry and David have taken a group of players with great potential and turned them into a unit that no team will look forward to meeting in 2015.  A huge amount of effort was put in and it showed on the big days when losing wasn't an option.  On behalf of everyone involved in the Club I'd like to thank the management and players for the wonderful year they have given us.  We would also like to thank all the Clubs and Players in Westmeath and beyond for their good wishes and support yesterday and throughout the year.  Finally anyone interested in going to the Junion scor all Ireland ballad group Finals please contact Louise Heavin on 087 6547686. It's on the 14th February at 2 pm in Citywest Dublin.
