Manager Tom Cribbin would welcome Dessie Dolan back into the Westmeath senior football squad with open arms.

The 34-year-old announced his retirement from intercounty football in July, having served the Lake County at the highest level for 16 seasons.

Cribbin has subsequently taken over at the helm and he told The Irish Times that he intends to approach the 2004 All Star with regards to a dramatic u-turn:

"Dessie had made his decision to retire and we said we maybe wouldn't talk to him until later in the new year, give him a break and he'll know himself whether it's right to come back or not and if he wants to come back he'll be more than welcome and if he doesn't that will be his choice to be honest with you."
