Dempsey happy with decision

Luke Dempsey has revealed that it was a 'logical' decision to take over St Loman's.

Dempsey will be in charge of the 2013 Westmeath senior football champions next year after he stood down from his role with Moorefield who he guided to back-to-back county titles.

The former Westmeath, Carlow and Longford manager lives in Mullingar and he admitted to the Westmeath Independent that having to travel less was one of the factors in his decision.

"Eleven years is a long time to be on the road," said Dempsey. "When I took the job with Moorefield, I said I'd give it two years. But driving out of Mullingar has become harder as I get older.

"It was a logical decision. Declan Rowley is a personal friend of mine, so I had talked to him about the set up and heard only good things.

"It's a fantastic club, with a good structure and tremendous facilities. For coaching, Lakepoint Park is as top class as it gets."
