Williams is new Westmeath ladies manager

November 20, 2014

Niall Williams has succeeded Martin Flanagan as manager of the Westmeath ladies football team.

The Delvin man, who was joint-manager of the Kilkenny camogie team along with Clonmellon's Graham Dillon for the past two years, was appointed for a three-year term earlier this week. As well as guiding Kilkenny to back-to-back All-Ireland final appearances and a National League title last May, Williams was in charge of the Na Fianna ladies football team that won this year's Dublin senior championship.

His selectors will be former Donegal ladies star Nadine Doherty, who retired from playing after Na Fianna's recent Leinster club final loss to Sarsfields of Laois, Mullingar Shamrocks' Paul Christie and Mary Walsh of Coralstown/Kinnegad.

The long-serving Delvin dual player will hope to build on the progress that has been made by Lake County legend Flanagan and his predecessors Alan Mangan and Peter Leahy in recent years.
