Columb Barracks is set to be the home of Westmeath GAA inter-county teams for the next ten years as a deal is near completion.

Westmeath GAA officials and the Department of Defence have been in negotiations over a long term lease on the former army barracks.

And these talks are alleged to be at an advanced stage between the parties concerned meaning that Westmeath GAA will have full use of the facilities for the next decade.

Other sporting and charity organisations also use the huge premises, which were closed down as an army barracks early last year.
