NOT A BAD WEEK
The sideboard is creaking under the weight of the silverware arrived in the town the past week.Following hot on the heels of the Juniors great victory, our U16s defeated the combined might of Shannon Gaels(Tubberclaire,Tang and Maryland) in the Div 2 final in a sun drenched Cusack Park on Saturday and then it was the turn on Sunday of our magnificent U10s to bring home the Coughlan Cup from Castledaly after defeating a gallant Rosemount outfit but only after extra time.Well done all the future is white!
U16 Div 2 Championship
For the eighth year running underage Championship success was delivered courtesy of a clinical performance from a highly skillfull U16 outfit against Shannon Gaels. With the teams level 1-2 to 0-5 at half time no one could have seen what was to come as the lads got completely on top in the second half finishing winners on a scoreline of 4-9 to 1-4.Well done to the team and mentors(report elsewhere in paper).
U10 Coughlan Cup
Our under 10 squad travelled to Castledaly on Sunday the 12th of October to contest the Coughlan Cup Final.
Our opponents were local rivals Rosemount. Both teams came through the early rounds of the tournament unbeaten so advanced to an eagerly anticipated final.
As one pm approached both teams lined out in the warm October sunshine.
Rosemount started brightly however Moate got into their stride as the first half progressed. Just before half time Moate held a commanding lead but Rosemount finished strongly and were just three points down as the half time whistle was blown.
The second half started with both teams swapping scores. As the half progressed Rosemount got stronger and as full time approached were one point to the good. Moate were now pushing hard for an equaliser and were rewarded with a couple of minutes to go. Soon after the final whistle sounded and extra time was called for.
Moate came out strongly in the first five minute period and raced into a six point lead. As the second period started Rosemount attacked the Moate goal but our defenders held them at bay. As the final whistle sounded Moate were ahead by five.
Compliments to both teams who gave their all in this very sporting match. A big thank you to Castledaly Gaa Club on running this most enjoyable Tournament.
Despite contesting finals in the intervening years it was actually 10 years since we last got our name on the Cup so naturally great celebrations followed.Again well done to all the players and their mentors who had also won the Community games earlier in the year so this capped a great year.
