Senior Championship

St Lomans Mullingar 1.12 Mullingar Shamrocks 1.12

St Lomans and Mullingar Shamrocks couldn't be separated in the championship semi final on Sunday last after a tense encounter in Cusack Park.

Paul Sharry opened the scoring with a point after a great solo run through the Shamrocks defence. Denis Corroon levelled the game with a pointed free. St Lomans began to dominate and points from Shane Dempsey(2), one of these a wonderful kick from distance, Paul Sharry and John Heslin were soon followed by a Heslin goal after he reacted quickest to a Conradh Reilly effort hitting the post. Shamrocks responded with four unanswered points before the final say of the half went to John Heslin who kicked over after great link up play with Shane Dempsey.

St Lomans extended their advantage early in the second half with points from substitute Garrett Hickey and both Shane Dempsey and John Heslin adding to their tallies. Shamrocks started to win a lot of the breaks and used their possession to clinical effect with three points along with a Lorcan Smyth goal to level the game. St Lomans added three points and looked to have secured the win as the game entered the closing stages but Shamrocks added three points of their own to level the game and ensure both teams must meet again.
