Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

September 28, 2014

The late Betty Dalton
Sympathy is extended to the Dalton family, Brosna View on the death of their mother Betty after a long illness last week. Predeceased by her husband Peter 13 years ago, Betty was a great woman who reared 11 children, seven sons and four daughters.

While the Dalton name is synonymous with Castletown-Geoghegan hurling, the family have also made a big contribution to our club. Indeed, Emmett bravely lined out for us in our JFC semi-final defeat to Multyfarnham the day before Betty's passing.

May she rest in peace.

Eimear Scally

The Cork ladies football team produced one of the greatest comebacks Croke Park has ever witnessed to beat Dublin in last Sunday's All-Ireland final, and a central figure in it was Eimear Scally, daughter of Tom, formerly of Kilcloghan but now living in the Rebel County.

Two years ago, Eimear was named the Munster Young Player of the Year at the Ladies Football All Star awards and she lived up to her reputation as one of the sport's up-and-coming stars by scoring the late goal that brought the Rebelettes level before they added the winning point.

Before moving to Cork in the 1980s, Tom Scally was a key member of our senior team. Indeed, when Kilbeggan reached their last senior county final in 1980, he was the youngest member of the team at just 17.

Joe Scally

Congratulations to Joe Scally, formerly of Attyconnor but domiciled in Killarney for the past 38 years, on purchasing the landmark Malton Hotel (previously known as The Great Southern) in Killarney last week.

Joe is already the owner of the Royal Hotel in Killarney and the Hayfield Manor in Cork city. Like the rest of his seven brothers, he wore the maroon and white of Kilbeggan and has remained a great supporter of the club. When we held our Family Day in Kilbeggan Racecourse three years ago, Joe generously sponsored the first prize, which was a stay in his five-star Hayfield Manor.
