UNDER 14
Our under 14 boys were out on Thursday last against Milltownpass. This was the classic game of two halves! We were down 1-11 to 4 points at half time. Despite this huge up - hill task, our boys came out and completely dominated the second half. We went on to score 4-10 in the second half with Milltownpass adding another 1-10 . We unfortunately ended up losing by one point. This was an absolutely enthralling encounter. If there is one lesson that can be drawn from this game, I think that it shows how much guts and team spirit these lads have to come back like they did. They are a credit to themselves, their families and to our community at large.

The scoreboard read 0-13 to 1-3 at half time. The second half saw more of the same with the boys in blue scoring freely and putting together some fine moves finishing in good scores. The whole squad contributed to a committed and focused performance. MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL RESULT
Shannon Gaels 1-16 Shandonagh 1-17
Westmeath's very own blue army arrived in Tubberclair last Sunday evening to take on an amalgamation side in the quarter final of the championship. Despite the travelling side being let down at the last minute by several absentees, the young men who took to the field in the navy and blue were determined not to falter in their quest for silverware. They set out their stall early in the game and went in at half time worthy leaders on a score line of 1-11 to 0-09 ahead. During the opening moiety our boys played clever first time football creating spaces in the right places at the right time. There was great unselfish team work involved in the build up to the goal which Daire Conway gratefully palmed to the back of the Shannon Gaels net.
Despite the deficit at half time the valiant Shannon siders came out in the second half, determined to make amends. They proceeded to score an impressive 1-6 from play in the second half. The sides were level 3 times in the second half, neither side willing to yield. With 10 minutes to go they were level and with tiring bodies points were traded less frequently. With 2 minutes to go, Shannon Gaels scored a point to level matters but Luke Tynan popped up to slot over what proved to be the winning point with 1 minute remaining. This was a tense encounter with a lot at stake and luckily our greater resolve saw us through.
