Adult Championship Round up:
With the business end of the championship now in full swing, the jigsaw that is the knock out stages achieved more clarity over the course of last weekend's games after some very interesting games. Hogan Park Moate hosted the Senior and Intermediate Football relegation finals on Sunday 14th September. The large crowd in attendance enjoyed two very entertaining and keenly contested matches who saw Castledaly and Ballinagore emerge winners over Athlone and Mullingar Shamrocks respectively. Ballinagore are the great survivors at Intermediate level in recent seasons and dug deep yet again to retain their spot in the middle grade for 2015 with a 1-9 to 0-10 win against Shamrocks who will ply their trade in the Junior grade next season. Athlone drop out of the top tier for the first time as far as I am aware after Castledaly came from behind to win by 2-14 to 3-10 after a terrific battle. Indeed, the shannonsiders looked well placed to retain their spot at Senior level when leading by five points in the second half. But a fast finishing Castledaly side had other ideas and claimed the spoils to ensure senior championship football next season. The last semi final spot in the Intermediate football championship was finalised with Caulry making it through at the second attempt when having four points to spare over Ballymore at Cusack park on Sunday. In the senior hurling championship, the final round of games saw Castletown Geoghegan emerge narrow winners over St Oliver Plunketts; Clonkill winning by a large margin over Castlepollard; Raharney having five points to spare over Lough Lene gaels with Delvin and Crookedwood ending level. Castletown Geoghegan will now play Castlepollard and Raharney will play Clonkill in the semi finals while Delvin and Crookedwood must meet again to see who drops to Intermediate level next year. In the Intermediate championship Fr Daltons had a big win over last years finalists Ringtown with Raharney easing to a solid win over Cullion. The final placings were not confirmed at the time of writing but St Brigids,Fr Daltons and Clonkill have made the semi finals.
Under 21 Football final:
Tubberclair claimed their first Under 21 football 15 a side title since the mid 1970's when defeating Garrycastle by 2-12 to 0-13 in a very good final at Pairc Chiarian Athlone. The neighbouring clubs were deserving finalists and goals in each half proved vital in deciding the result.
Intermediate & Junior Football semi finals:
The semi finals of both the Intermediate and Junior football championships take place on Saturday 20th September with four interesting games down for decision. Cuasck Park Mullingar is the venue for both Intermediate games with Rosemount playing Tubberclair and Caulry playing Tang. The Rosemount/Tubberclair game opens proceedings on Saturday with a 4-45pm throw in while the Caulry/Tang game has a 6-15pm throw in time. All four teams have very similar records having recorded four wins apiece in each of their group games. Tang and Tubberclair topped their respective groups to qualify for the semi finals while Rosemount overcame Milltownpass and Caulry got the better of Ballymore at the second attempt to reach this stage. There won't be much between the sides with Tang and Tubberclair marginally fancied to reach the final but I for one wouldn't like to bet on the outcomes as it is too tight to call. The one certainty is that the games will draw a big crowd to HQ and they will be well contested. The Junior football semi finals are in Shandonagh earlier on Saturday with Kilbeggan Shamrocks facing Multyfarnham and St Pauls playing Moate All Whites. The Kilbeggan/Multyfarnham game throws in at 1-45pm while the St Pauls/Moate All Whites game is at 3-15pm. Like their counterparts in the Intermediate grade, these two games will be closely contested. Since the start of the year, Moate All Whites have been the bookies favourites to win the Junior grade. They have been unbeaten so far but struggled to beat St Pauls in the group stages. They should make the final but it wont be easy. Multyfarnham qualified directly for the semi finals for the first time since 1997 after a very solid campaign and having beaten Kilbeggan en route will be confident of repeating the result. It is hard to call but Kilbeggan's quarter final win over St Lomans will have brought them on and I have a feeling they will squeeze it but again it is hard to call with any great confidence.
Junior A and Junior B Hurling finals:
The Junior Hurling finals take place on Sunday 21st September in Cusack park with morning throw in's for both games. Cullion face Delvin in the Junior B final at 11-30am while Clonkill play Lough Lene gaels in the Junior A final at 1-00pm

Comortas na nGael:
On Monday 25th August Liam Ó Néill, Uachtaran CLG, launched a new competition for GAA clubs - "Comórtas na nGael" - which is being run in conjunction with Glór na nGael.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage clubs to learn and use more Irish in the club setting. It is an opportunity for clubs to promote Gaeilge sa chlub and I would encourage every club to consider participating in the competition. There are Provincial prizes of €1000 each as well as a National prize of €1000. At yesterday's launch an Uachtaran mentioned that he hopes to include County prizes also.
The competition will run from next January to December and clubs should register their intention to participate by the end of September. Foirm Intrála (Entry form) available on www.glornangael.ie
Clubs will be assessed under the following headings (20 marks for each):
Foghlaim/Learning
Stádas/Status
Feicealacht/Visibility
Plean/Plan
Úsáid/Usage
