Mullingar Shamrocks have set up a Flanagan Cup semi-final showdown with town rivals and holders St. Loman's after coming from behind to beat Tyrrellspass in last night's replay at Cusack Park.
A late Darragh Daly goal handed Bernard Flynn's charges a dramatic 3-11 to 1-14 quarter-final victory after they had trailed by 0-4 to 1-9 at half-time. Tyrrellspass, who scored two late points to earn a replay last Saturday, dominated the opening period and went six points clear, 1-7 to 0-4, when Ger Egan converted a penalty after his county colleague Denis Glennon had been fouled by Conor Twomey.
Twomey earned a black card for his troubles.
But Shamrocks stormed back after the restart with goals from Lorcan Smyth and Donal O'Donoghue to draw level, 2-8 to 1-11, with 13 minutes to go. Tyrrellspass had Gavin Hoey black carded before county midfielder Daly - who recently returned from Australia - struck what proved to be the winning goal.
A rejuvenated Garrycastle will meet Coralstown/Kinnegad in the other semi-final after accounting for Killucan last Sunday. Both semi-finals will take place on the weekend of September 27-28.
