Under 12 Report v Ringtown

Southern Gaels Under 12s played their second game in Phase 2 against Ringtown on Wednesday last. This was an extremely close and entertaining game in which our lads played excellently but were denied a victory by a very good Ringtown goalkeeper, who performed heroics in the goals.

Newcomer Brian Walsh opened the scoring with a great point, followed shortly after by another from Chulainn Dowd. The Ringtown goalie made a couple of wonderful saves before they struck for 1.2 before half-time but Chulainn got another long range point to leave it 1.2 to 0.3 at the break. A few positional switches in the second half meant we dominated early in the second half with Eamon Martin moving to mid-field and scoring 1.2. However Ringtown played some fine passing hurling and closed the game stronger and scored 2.1 in the closing stages to leave it 3.3 to 1.5. All our players played their part and contributed to a great game and some wonderful hurling.

The team and subs used were: Sean Murphy, Cian O Suilleabhain, Eamon Martin, Aaron Lynch, Chulainn Dowd, Brian Walsh, Cian McCarthy, Eoin McCarthy, Niall Scully and Callum McKnight. Subs used were Johnny Martin, Dano McMonagle, Luke Whelan, and Darragh Elliot

U10 versus Fr. Daltons
Ours U10s played Fr Daltons in Ballymore on Saturday 23rd. We had 15 players on the day which was another great turnout.
As Fr Daltons had 11 we loaned a couple of players to the opposition to ensure everyone got to play and no substitutions were required.
Eoin /Hardiman was outstanding in defence, lifting quickly and breaking out of a group of players battling for the ball regularly.
On one occasion Eoin also took a fine point after making a great run further up the pitch.
Ryan Fallon scored two fine points. He also made the catch of the day from a puckout and was unlucky to have his shot blocked down.
Paidi O'Leochain had another fine game scoring numerous times for us before swapping teams.
Michael Dolan was excellent again and always makes life difficult for the opposition and even popped over a score If memory serves correctly.
It was great to see our lads in their first year of Under 10 also getting  onto the scoreboard and playing so well.
Kian Mitchell scored a fine goal after lifting in a crowded area and getting his shot off before hitting the back of the net.
Luke OConnell scored an excellent point from a free after taking a late pull to the leg. Luke Farrell drove a shot high over the bar and
was unlucky not to have another few. Dano McMonagle got one of the scores of the game from the sideline after good work to beat a number of Fr Daltons players to add to his fine
tally of scores while under huge pressure. Dillon Lally was unlucky not to score when hos shot was inches wide when he took a free after being pushed over.
Diarmaid Murtagh also got a fine score and showed his skills hitting left and right when needed without hesitation. Diarmaid gets better and better every match.
Luke Whelan narrowly missed the goal after a fine overhead pull on a dropping ball going narrowly wide.
Oisin Flynn hit some fine puckouts far up the pitch for lads to chase. Oisin Dolan battled and blocked in the defence to keep attackers at bay and brother Odhran was unlucky not to
score on a few occasions. Johnny Martin had a fine game making many interceptions and clearances and was unlucky not to get a score from a few long shots from the side of the pitch.
On the day we were too strong for Fr Daltons but thanks to Fr Daltons for the challenge and we'll be seeing plenty of each other again next year.
Thank you to the parents who made the trip to Ballymore for another enjoyable game and great display from the U10 players and thanks to players who swapped sides
to even up the game and make sure no substitutions required.
