JFC
As St Josephs were unable to field we received a walkover which was not the way we would have wished to complete the group stages of the Championship. We now have a break of four weeks until the semi final with our opponents to be decided in the meantime.
Minor
MAW 5-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-9
By far our best performance this year so far,the lads showed that they are well up for the defence of their title. We were solid at the back with Shane Claffey and Jake Fannin improving with every game and Keith Byrne impressing at centre back particularly with his range of passing.Danny and Ruairi were on top at centre field while up front Gavin Murray,Robbie Forde and the unplayable Aaron O Neill (who finished with a haul of 4-2) were to the fore with Conor Sheridan also covering every blade of grass twice.Panel;P Gorman,S Claffey,D Ennis,C Claffey,A Gorman,K Byrne,J Fannin,R Cunningham,D Ledwith,C Sheridan,G Murray,B Berry,A O Neill,E Kelly,R Forde,P Sheridan,C Corcoran,C Ennis,D Byrne,D Mullins.
U14
On Monday evening last our U14s played Offaly amalgamation D & R Gaels in a challenge game in Hogan Park. Weather conditions were ideal for the game. The visitors started the stronger and raced into a 5 point lead before Moate got their first score. As the half wore on D&R held control of the game with Moate struggling to keep up the pace. We started the second half much stronger and added 5 points without reply to get to within 1 point of the visitors. However D&R broke away and manged to score a goal which gave them some breathing space again. Our lads to their credit never gave up and when the final whistle blew there was just 3 points of a difference in favour of the visitors. Full time score D&R gaels 4 -08 MAW 3-08
U12
Last Wednesday evening , our under 12's visited Athlone to play in a friendly game before a busy schedule in the coming weeks.
This was a 13 a side game and from the start , Moate battled a very good Athlone team with excellent passing and team work, and a great midfield display who were up against the Athlone lad's from the start
Both sides played the ball in a wide pitch set -up , which encouraged some great skill in kick passing and encouraged lad's to find team mates to ensure possession.
Overall this was a pleasure to watch as both teams contested the game with football skills and teamwork the winners for both sides.
For the record , one point was the difference at the final whistle to the hosts.
Thanks to Athlone GAA for inviting us over.
