St.Marys vs Mullingar Shamrocks
Last sunday these two teams lock horns in this vital game at the lower end of this section. The game was played in a windy milltown.Mullingar started the stronger and got the first score and really put down a marker that they were up for this big battle.St.Marys were no different and they were kept in it early on by Tommy Byrne in the bridge goal with a point blank save. With St.Marys having the wind in this half we just werent making it count on the scoreboard. We finally got going with a lovely Jack Reid point. Both sides were playing some fine football in this half .Mullingar kept the scoreboard ticking over too,But we seen 3 other scores from Eoin gorman in this half, one of which was set up with a beautiful pass from Jack Reid.Keenan gill got the next score before he did himself set up the on rushing Cathal moran to get his first score. At half time St.Marys were 0.6 -0.5 in front. The second half started and St.Marys really had to work hard against a stiff wind,we seen some wonderful catching in the middle of the park by James Neal.Mullingar came at St.Marys in the start of this half and we seen some wonderful defending from the St.Marys defenders and some more wonderful stops from the bridge goalkeeper. Our forwards had to up the anti in this half and be more clinical and thats exactly what happened.Eoin gorman opened the bridge account in the second half and Jack reid followed with a beauti not long after. This half seen some great play and wonderful strength throughout,Other points from Joe Guiden and Robbie kenny seen the bridge starting to open up a bit of a lead on mullingar. Then we seen a great score from 35 yards out from james neal and followed up by another from Robbie Kenny, with time running out Mullingar Shamrocks were trying very hard to get someething from this game till this happened, a move in the back line started with Dwayne Leavy clearing his lines and working it right up the field with some well worked passes and from 15 yards out Dwayne hammed a shot to the top corner of the net to give the mullingar keeper no hope of saving,A score he duely deserved after some great defending all day.well done st.marys 1-12 mullingar 0-7.full time
