U16 Championship
St Lomans Mullingar 6.18 Shannon Gaels 0.03
The U16 squad put in their performance of the season against Shannon Gaels on Monday last in their second round championship encounter. The hard work in training is really beginning to show with some scores and link up by the players of the highest quality.
St Lomans got off to the perfect start when Eoin Fox's point was quickly followed by an Adam Lynch goal when his shot dropped to the net. The blues defence dealt with any pressure that the opposition threw at them and held them to just a single point in the first half. Points from Mikey Scally(2), Declan Colgan(2), Jonathon Nugent(2), Fola Ayorinde and Adam Lynch extended St Lomans advantage before Scally buried a shot to the net just before the break.
Shannon Gaels kicked over two points at the start of the second half but these would be their last scores and goals from Jonathon Nugent and Glen Gilchrist(2) put the result beyond doubt. While the forwards were clinical on the day it has to be said the solid defensive display along with Frank Kavanagh and Adam Lynch's great work in midfield ensured endless supply to the inside line. It's hoped the lads can now build on this performance for the later rounds of the championship.
Team; Ryan Cleary, Daniel Gilleran, Kevin Regan, Thomas Kilmurray, Adam Kennedy, Tristan Johnson, Mark Tubridy, Frank Kavanagh, Adam Lynch(1.01), Declan Colgan(0.05), Mikey Scally(1.03,2f), Eoin Fox(0.01), Glen Gilchrist(2.01), Fola Ayorinde(0.04), Jonathon Nugent(2.03,1f). Subs Used; Andrew Mc Kenna, Jack Tyrrell, Shane Broughan, Stephen Sheridan, Sean Whelehan, Conor Shaw.
U15 Pilot Blitz
Well done to our U15's who won the 7 a-side County Blitz at the weekend. St Lomans competed against The Downs, Athlone, St Marys Rochfortbridge and went on to beat The Downs in the final.
U14 Championship
The U14's suffered a disappointing defeat to a superior Mullingar Shamrocks side in Springfield last week. The home side raced into an early lead and registered a goal and four points without reply. St Lomans battled back into the game and points from Conan O Hara, Reece Poynton, Conor Regan and Niall Derham reduced the margin before the break.
Shamrocks started the second half in determined fashion and three goals put the game beyond doubt. The highlight of the game for St Lomans was a wonderful goal from Conan O Hara who ran through the opposition defence to rattle the net after linking up well with his brother Fionn. The lads still have plenty of games to get their campaign back on track to reach the knock out stages and there's no doubting there's the talent in the squad to do so.
