Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club notes

August 18, 2014
SHC
Lough Lene Gaels are still in the hunt for a semi-final spot in the Slevin's Coaches senior hurling championship, though only after they survived the challenge of a battling Delvin side at Cusack Park on Sunday.
The Gaels led 1-5 to 0-6 at the break, with Noel Conaty finding the net early on and Dan Carty among the scores.
We took a four point lead near the end of the third quarter after a goal from Fergal Moran, but did well to withstand some late pressure from an improved Delvin side.
Moran tacked on the insurance score late on to seal a slender 2-9 to 1-10 victory.
Team: Brian Conaty; Derek Healy, Brendan Doyle, Seamus Carroll; Fergal Moran (1-1), Micheal Daly (0-1), Francis Kennedy; Stephen Bardon, Mickey Walsh; Daragh McCormack (0-1f), Derek McNicholas, John Egan; Warren Williams (0-1), Dan Carty (0-4, 2f, 1 '65'), Noel Conaty (1-1). JHC 'A'
The first of the Semi-Finals of the Junior A Championship was played on Monday week last in Killucan with Lough Lene Gaels facing off against Raharney.
After some heavy spills for most of the day, bright sunshine greeted spectators and players as the entered the grounds but both were expecting the worst for the playing conditions. Thankfully this never came and an entertaining encounter between two evenly matched teams took place.
Lough Lene Gaels won the toss and elected to play up the hill and against the breeze of the immaculately presented Killucan grounds. The first half was a tense encounter with LLG winning some of the important exchanges but persistence fouling allowed the opposition to keep in touch (only two points behind) at half time. Two goals from Dara McCormack and Damien Conaty were vital.
The second half opened up with LLG playing with the conditions and continued to progress well. However, the Deelsiders opposition had a sting in the tail and pressed very hard in the final minutes with some excellent points but the all elusive goal never came and Lough Lene Gaels held out for a two point win.
Final score: Lough Lene Gaels 2-15, Raharney 1-16.
The result sets Lough Lene Gaels up for the final to be played in the coming weeks.
Team: Johnny Molloy, Eamonn Potter, Keith Fitzpatrick, Daragh Qamar, Daire Daly, Seamus Carroll, Francis Kennedy, Michael Walsh, Francis McDermott, John Egan, Michael Daly, Robbie Cooney, Warren Williams, Daragh McCormack, Damien Conaty. Subs used: David Cunningham and Jack Coyle for Robbie Cooney and John Egan.
