Lake County U21s docked for not returning jerseys

No jersey No expenses.
Members of this year's Westmeath U21 football panel have suffered the consequences for not handing back their jerseys after being asked to do so by the county board.

Having gone through nine sets of jerseys this year alone, Westmeath top brass has decided to take action by docking the cost of jerseys which were not returned from player expenses.

Recalling how the U21s had refused to give back their jerseys after a challenge match against the seniors last spring, county secretary James Savage said: "We asked the U21s to leave them back, we told them in the dressing room that if they didn't leave the jerseys back we'd deal with it through expenses.

"I won't tell you what they told me to do. But we did as promised.

"The cost of each set of jerseys to us is €1,500 and if we're spending more it has to come out of somewhere. We have a budget to work out of."

Ironically, Westmeath took the rather radical step of withdrawing their minor hurlers for the All-Ireland 'B' championship after it was alleged that jerseys and tops from the Fermanagh ladies football team dressing-room went missing during a double-header at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh last Saturday.
