Westmeath CCC is expected to launch an investigation into the disgraceful scenes which marred last night's IFC clash between Ballymore and Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall at The Downs.

Players and mentors from both teams were involved in two separate brawls which erupted at the end of both halves. Referee Mick Murtagh issued red cards to one player from each side after the first flashpoint, and also dished out over a dozen yellow cards over the course of an ill-tempered encounter that ended in a 1-11 to 2-5 victory for Ballymore.

Meanwhile, Westmeath full back Kieran Gavin will have a scan in the coming days to ascertain the extent of the ankle injury he sustained during Mullingar Shamrocks' 0-12 to 0-9 SFC victory over Castledaly yesterday. If the scan shows that he has suffered ligament damage, he is likely to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Better news for Shamrocks manager Bernard Flynn is the return of Darragh Daly from Australia. The giant midfielder returned from a nine-month stay in Australia on Thursday and lined out for the Shamrocks' intermediates in their 0-11 to 1-14 championship loss to Milltownpass in Kinnegad this afternoon.

Daly's return is also a boost for Westmeath who are looking for a new manager following the dismissal of Paul Bealin on Wednesday night.
