We held our Annual Coaching Camp on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week. Once again this was a great success and a full report will follow in next week's edition.

Senior Championship
On Saturday night last (Aug 2nd) our Senior hurlers played neighbours Lough Lene Gaels in the 4th Round of the County Championship. On a dark evening with heavy rain, conditions were never going to allow for a great game of hurling.

That said, Castlepollard got off to a flying start when in the very first minute Warren Casserly sent a ball towards goal which Alan Devine helped towards the net. The Gaels then got off the mark with 2 points in quick succession. A superb piece of defending by Tommy Gallagher saw him block what would have been a point blank strike on the Pollard goal. Both teams then traded points until injury time when Darren McCormack finished off a fine solo run with a well taken point. At half-time the teams were level on a scoreline of Castlepollard 1-03; Lough Lene Gaels 0-06.

In the second half Castlepollard now had the advantage of the strong wind and this was to prove decisive. Alan Devine added 3 more points before Lough Lene Gaels got their first and only score of the second half. Michael Murray was introduced in place of John Paul Murray and his first involvement saw him hit the back of the net after Alan Devine had a goal-bound shot save by the Gaels keeper. Alan Devine (2 frees) and Warren Casserly (65) completed the scoring in the second half. The final score was Castlepollard 2-09; Lough Lene Gaels 0-07.

Despite the awful weather conditions this was an improved and determined display by the whole team. The game also saw the welcome return of Shane Egan to the Blue and Gold jersey.

The team lined out as follows: Donal Devine, Sean Lancaster, Paul Murphy, Colm Dermody, Martin Egan, Tommy Gallagher, David Higgins, Warren Casserly(1 point from a 65), Kevin Brazil, Darren McCormack (1 point), Shane Egan, Derek Murray, Alan Devine (1-06, 3 points from frees), John Paul Murray, John McCarthy(1 point). Sub: Michael Murray (1 goal) for John Paul Murray. Castlepollard's next opponents in the Senior Championship will be St. Oliver Plunketts.
